On the 14th of August 2007, our Yazidi people in the Shiba and Shex Khidir villages of Shingal suffered a bloodthirsty massacre in which 450 of Yazidi Kurds lost their lives. We vehemently condemn the perpetrators of this massacre and remember with respect the victims of the massacre.

TO THE PATRIOTIC PEOPLE OF KURDISTAN AND THE PUBLIC OPINION

 

The bandit-marauder ISIS organization backed by some international and reactionary regional forces is posing many threats to South Kurdistan. This bandit organization whose main aim is the elimination of the entity and freedom of the Kurds, has been carrying out bloodthirstily attacks against the Kurdish people in Rojava for two years. But it suffered successive blows and historic defeats against the heroic resistance of YPG forces and the people of Rojava. Failing to achieve its aims in Rojava Kurdistan, it has now started to launch brutal attacks on South Kurdistan. ISIS is now fighting against the patriotic and resistant line of struggle in the Middle East. Eliminating all the gains of the Kurdish people and especially the gains of South Kurdistan is the main aim underlying the invasion of Mosul.

The Kurdish Freedom Movement has been in a non-action position for one and a half year. The AKP administration has misused this position as an opportunity for building new military posts, new dams and new roads for military purposes. It attacked the people who were protesting against the building of military posts, killed 2 Kurdish patriots and injured many others. We offer our condolences to our people and the families of the martyrs and wish quick recovery for the wounded.

The AKP administration started building new military posts immediately after the non-conflict situation. They fortified old military posts and built new ones in those areas where it had been impossible to build posts during the clashes. This attitude has de facto ruled out the non-conflict situation. Our resolve for a political and democratic settlement has been abused. They have followed such an opportunistic policy because they have no policies for settling the issue. The withdrawal process was halted because of such attitudes and implementations. But the AKP didn’t take into consideration this warning, continued to abuse the non-conflict situation and insisted on its non-settlement policies.

We offer our condolences to the families and relatives of hundreds of mine workers who lost their lives in Soma, Turkey; we wish quick recovery for those wounded in the mine blast. As Kurdistan Freedom Movement we will stand with you and share your sorrow.

The death of hurdreds of mine workers is not an accident; it is a crime. In Turkey, making production at low cost is being achieved at the cost of job security. Not only the workers are underpaid, but also, void of any job security measures, maximum wealth at the minimum period is being targeted. This sweating system is not limited to coal mines only; it is running in all work places in Turkey. Every year many seasonal farm workers lose their lives in massacre-like traffic accidents on the roads. Turkey, as a country of cheap workforce which has no job security, is an heaven of exploitation. International companies garn huge profits from investing in Turkey, a country with no job security. The workers in Turkey, no matter they are Kurds, Turks, Lazs or Cherkezs, all have been turned into the most profitable exploitation objects both by the Turkish bourgeoisie and the international capital.

KNK: Release all critically ill prisoners in Turkey

The KNK has sent an open letter to Prime Minister Erdogan and Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ calling for the release of hundreds of critically ill prisoners who are languishing in Turkish jails without proper medical attention. As the letter explains, despite recent changes to the law that would allow for seriously ill prisoners to be released, any prisoner charged under the anti-terror law who is suffering health problems has no chance of release under the current rules.

We know of at least 544 prisoners in Turkey are seriously ill who deserve to be released. We also know that 2300 people have died in Turkish prisons in the last 13 years.

The appeal has been signed by over 12o prominent public figures from across the world, including Selahattin Demirtaş, Co-chair of Peace and Democracy Party (BDP); writer and former political prisoner Ragip Zarakolu; Professor Noam Chomsky; several Members of the British, Irish and European Parliaments; and Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, to name a few. The appeal was also published in Turkish daily Radikal.

Despite all the inequitable and unbalanced conditions, the people of Kurdistan achieved a very important success in the local elections. Due to the newly-ratified metropolitan law they had already lost 22 towns won in the 2009 elections; but they secured a big increase in the number of municipalities by gaining 27 towns more in recent elections. We salute and congratulate our people for their great success in the elections, their recalcitrant resistance in the face of all the repressions and conspiracies of the AKP administration, and for their defense of their will and honor.

 
The BDP ran its elections campaign under the slogan of “WITH SELF-RULE, TOWARDS FREE INDENTITY”. Leader APO attributed the importance of a referendum to this election and our movement has regarded the BDP’s success in the election as the people’s attaining their right to self-rule. We interpret the results as the ratification of democratic self-rule by our people. So, the great thrill and enthusiasm of the people of Kurdistan for their election success is quite understandable.

Latest KCK statement on the anniversary of Halabja

26 years ago, on the 16th of March, thousands of Kurds were killed in Halabja, a city in South Kurdistan. Hereby, we vehemently condemn this inhumane massacre against the Kurdish people.

What the fascist Saddam regime tried on Halabja was just another instance of Hitler’s fascism and the Nagasaki atomic bombardment. The mustard and Sarin chemical gases were thrown on the Kurds. Thousands of children, women, young and elderly people were brutally killed. Neither the forces proclaiming themselves to represent socialism nor the ones representing capitalist modernity and backing the fascist Saddam regime showed any reaction against the merciless killing of the Kurds; thereby they registered their complicity in the barbarity deemed proper for the Kurds. After the massacre which was a full instance of genocide, thousands of Kurds, hungry and destitute, were forced to flee and take refuge in Iran and Turkey in what already meant another Halabja for them.

‘Some Perspectives on Genocide’

Desmond Fernandes, in his presentation, highlighted some of the key perspectives of Raphael Lemkin (who coined the neologism genocide), Khatchatur Pilikian, Gregory Stanton and John Docker on genocide. Pilikian, on the occasion of Hrant Dink Day on 19^th January 2010, had observed that:

Our turbulent times … will soon teach us new lessons, granted we are willing to learn and act upon it. As the Preamble of the Verdict of the prestigious Permanent Peoples’ Tribunal of April 16th 1984 concludes: ‘Indeed, acknowledging genocide itself is a fundamental means of struggling against genocide. The acknowledgement is itself an affirmation of the right of a people under international law to a safeguarded existence’.

One year passed over the assassination of Sakine Cansiz, Fidan Dogan and Leyla Shaylemez in Paris; but neither the French nor the Turkish governments have taken any step to find the killers. However, with the escalation of power conflict in Turkey, documents related to Paris killings have begun to emerge. The voice records of Ömer Güney, the alleged killer, and the leaking of documents related to the MIT’s (Turkish intelligence Service) involvement in the killings validate claims about the role of Turkey in planning and carrying out the killings. These murders had been committed at a time when the Fethullah Gulen’s movement had cooperated and collaborated with AKP to form the government. As a matter of fact, these murders couldn’t have taken place without the support of intelligence services. The documents leaked recently point to the MIT’s complicity in the murder. Unless otherwise proven, the MIT will be held responsible for planning and carrying out the Paris assassinations.

Both the AKP spokespersons and the Gulenists drew attention to internal feud, immediately after the news of the murder spread. From the start, these kinds of arguments were enough to prove that the the alliance between the AKP and the Gulenists had carried out the killings. It is quite well understood that the leaking of the voice records and related documents is closely related to the Gulenists’ intention to put pressure on the AKP. Whatever their intention, it was very important that the role of the MIT in the assassinations has been revealed.

With the killing of Bêmal Tokçu, the number of the crimes committed by the Turkish police raised to three. We convey our condolences to the family of Bêmal Tokçu and all the Kurdish People. Those who committed these murders will certainly be held accountable for them. The AKP administration has normalized the crimes committed by the police in Kurdistan and Turkey. No police crime undergoes trial, just as the killers are left unpunished. The police heartened by this indifference are easily showering bullets on the people.
